Since 2017, Beyond the Walk has been reimagining daycare, boarding, and training. I saw how my foster dogs had thrived in my care for years and set out to create boarding that did the same. Now, almost 6 years later, we continue redefining what it means to “board” or “train” your dog. I have made some changes, effective today, to our services which will ultimately enable us to have more creativity, simplicity, and flexibility in providing superior boarding and training services to you and your dogs.
Boarding: Our nightly boarding cost has increased to $70/night; daycare rates are unchanged. With that you may notice that enrichment snacks and adventure walks have been removed from selection – snacks and long-line walks (and more), when provided, will be at no additional charge for all dogs. With this change comes the flexibility for us to provide the services that fit your dog best on a given day without needing to quantify their experience. This also enables us to include your dog on field trips, adventures to natural sites we may visit (seasonal), or, in inclement weather, substitute an “adventure walk” with an indoor field trip that provides the same satisfaction to your dog (activities are always selected with dog’s comfort/safety in mind). The Ultimate Experience has been removed; more on this below. We strive to make every stay the ultimate experience and that may look different than 30 mins of training, an adventure walk, and a frozen kong snack depending on the day and the dog.
If you booked boarding or began training prior to system changes on 1/23 the previous rates will apply.
Transportation/Travel/Add-ons: I have simplified our travel/transportation costs and travel up to 30 mins for boarding and training will now be free. Travel/transportation will now have simple tiered rates a bit lower in cost than previously: 30-60min $15, 1hr $30, 2hr+ $60+. Grooming add-on costs have been restructured to reflect labor intensity; grooming bundle cost remains the same.
Adventure Walks/Puppy Class: Adventure walk services outside of boarding and puppy class offerings have been paused. As our team has continues in their personal endeavors and one of our amazing team members has left to pursue her field of study, we must focus on our daycare, boarding, and training clients. These services may return in the future. We recommend our staff member Amanda’s puppy class at PetSmart in Newton.
All Training: While one-off training sessions are helpful for some training needs and we will still provide a al carte training services when appropriate, we are shifting focus to developing comprehensive training plans for clients through packages and our revamped board and train offerings. Often, training cases will require more than a few hours of total training for complete and lasting behavior change. It is important to us that our training clients receive the quantity of services needed for lifetime success. As mentioned, there are times in which training does not require full packages, but this determination will be at our sole discretion. This also pertains to the decision to remove The Ultimate Experience and include training in daycare/boarding only after review of the owner’s goals – small training items would be best worked on in a private session at drop off or pick up and larger training goals truly need a training plan that does not only relate to training in boarding; rather a combination of training in boarding and private sessions with a training package or a full board and train program.
We have created 4 new board and train programs with detailed outlines of training progression for the non-behavior modification programs available for view on our website - Reliable Offleash, In Home Skills, Community Skills, and Behavior Modification. Board and trains have a strict scheduling and payment policy that we are happy to review with you.
Our training services and options will continue to include an unprecedented level of support between training sessions for all training clients and now offer “certified results” for clients that train with us to completion of the intended goal. Meaning - we will support you and your dog for their lifetime relating to the skills or behaviors worked on and achieved in training with us. New training offerings and rates available on our website for review.
Coaching: Coaching for rescue organizations has moved to the Services for Rescue Orgs tab. Boarding, training, and board and train will continue to be offered to approved partnering rescues. Coaching for rescues will be offered at a still discounted, but monthly rate. Coaching for canine professionals/facilities will continue to be offered as la carte sessions at our new rate of $150/hr.
Bookings/Cancellations: As a reminder, remain in your car for appointments and wait to waved in – this is for your and our safety. We suggest all clients have my cell 2016691143 and the business cell 9739034621 in a group text chat so both are notified that you have arrived or require schedule changes - at least have both numbers handy. All clients are required to have a working card on file to book. Bookings remain the same, though the website has change slightly for better organization. As we approach booking time for our busier seasons, we encourage existing clients to book as soon they are aware. If you were a waitlist accepted client last year, book using your account to be placed on the waitlist. Cancellation policies remain similar, but can be reviewed at the bottom of the website homepage. Please review and update you and your dogs’ profiles in your account for any changes to your dog’s medical or feeding needs and updated rabies and distemper/parvo vaccine documents with valid expiration dates (best loaded in your account, emailed if absolutely necessary, vaccine info can no longer be texted please) as well as ensure you have a valid email address and correct phone numbers for emergency contacts (that don’t travel with you). We must have your physical street address on file for legal reasons.
Over all - we stand for better boarding and training. And every decision we make is for that.
