Specifics
Wellness Technician is an independent contractor position.
Hours
At times, there may be a need for more coverage during one week versus the next; for example, there may be several days needed with long hours, followed by a week off. As with most boarding-based businesses, weekends, summers, and holidays may be our busiest times of the year, therefore willingness and availability to work on Friday-Sunday and holidays and throughout summer is a must. Shifts also include overnight stays at Beyond the Walk as we do not leave dogs overnight without a staff member on site.
Pay & Benefits
- Probationary period of 45 days: $20/hr
- After probationary period: $22/hr
- After 1 year from hire: $25/hr and $100 monthly stipend towards health insurance
- Post-1 year annual raises based on performance and industry standard
- Federal holidays paid at time and a half, with travel time to/from working location on federal holidays
Future Opportunities
There may be future opportunities to take on training work as a trainer should the candidate currently be or, during their employment, become a trainer. Pay rates for training work can be discussed.
Infrequently: Transportation for client dogs is an optional additional role that staff may elect to complete using their own vehicle. A crate is provided for transportation by Beyond the Walk. Transportation pay is $45/hr of active driving to cover time, gas, and miles.
Responsibilities
- Ensure all dogs in daycare/boarding care receive a humane level of care including, but not limited to feedings/socialization as directed, access to water, relief opportunities, exercise, comfortable living quarters, and mental stimulation
- Provide aforementioned requirements for dogs through tasks including, but not limited to preparing and providing meals/food and mental enrichment, providing exercise opportunities (yard play, walks, etc), and changing/cleaning bedding and food/water bowls
- Safely handle dogs per directives
- Clean, wash, sanitize bedding and bowls/toys
- Organize/sort supply items
- Janitorial duties including vacuuming, mopping, sweeping, and other cleaning including grounds maintenance and waste management
- Follow all uniquely specific directives for each canine
Qualifications
- 1+ year formal or informal experience caring for/handling dogs other than your own pet dogs (volunteer, foster, transport, adoptions, dog walking, pet sitting, training, vet office, grooming, etc.) Kennel environment experience without direct supervision a plus
- Basic knowledge of dog behavior and body language, dog gear/toys, body language, diffusing tense situations
- Open to learning and education relating to canines and client interactions
- Punctual, honest, patient, and responsible, able to communicate in fluent English with others through verbal, written, and cellular communications
- Forward thinking, able to analyze/predict situations, and react swiftly
- Flexible throughout work day, ability to prioritize
- Committed to facilitating a safe and clean environment for all canines and humans and positive reinforcement training and handling principles
- Not hesitant to "get down and dirty"
- Ability to lift 50+ lbs, handle dogs 100+ lbs, climb stairs, and complete a physically demanding workload
- Reliable transportation
- Comfortable working in home-based and kennel environments
- Open to handling/learning about all breeds of dogs
- 21 years of age+ (due to insurance coverage)
Beyond the Walk is not currently hiring for part time Experience Specialist positions nor trainer positions.
